Why should policymakers consider student transportation in their education choice policies?

Schools and districts face several transportation challenges. When a state is trying to expand school choice, the K-12 system needs a variety of policies to address these challenges. Policies like vehicle flexibility, modernization grants and scholarships allow schools and states to better serve students who need options, especially those from low-income families, students with disabilities, homeless or foster care students and students pursuing college and career training programs. These policies provide ways for states to address commute time, driver shortages and budget issues.
